people. policy. power. “p3” will highlight issues facing low-income families living on the border by producing:

·  Evidenced based individual issue “Fact Sheets”,

·  Local, State and Federal Policy recommendations,

·  Educational webinars, listening sessions and discussions and

·  Blog posts, articles, and videos.

Building wealth by providing access to safe, sanitary, and affordable housing has been cdcb’s mission for the past 45+ years. Since 1974 we have focused our attention on ensuring that we meet, learn from, and become involved in the financial lives of everyone we serve. Whether they are building a home, borrowing for a mortgage, enrolling in job training, or needing financial coaching and counseling, the individual story is paramount. This intense focus on the individual has allowed cdcb to be recognized as one of the largest producers of affordable housing in Texas, create award winning innovative solutions for small dollar lending, disaster reconstruction, financial education and affordable housing design and development. We know firsthand our community is made up of individuals that are hopeful, persistent, entrepreneurial, resourceful, creative, and resilient.

Nevertheless, individuals and families residing in the Borderlands are still subject to the compounding effects of long-standing income poverty and a prevalence of chronic physical disease. This persistent poverty is caused by years of federal, state, and local disinvestment, structural racism and inadequate policies that hinder low-income individuals, families, and communities from accessing vehicles to build wealth. Generational poverty is deeply entrenched, and individuals face seemingly insurmountable obstacles while striving to accumulate wealth. 

cdcb’s hyper-attention on individual PEOPLE has given us the deep understanding of the big picture changes needed in Local, State and Federal legislation, rule-making and funding POLICY in order to increase the POWER to elevate our region out of Persistent Poverty to a region of Persistent Prosperity. Through the lens of individual wealth creation, affordable housing development and intentional gender, racial and ethnic equity we intend to further inform the development of equitable local, state and federal policies that will enable low and moderate income individuals and people of color to successfully navigate an increasingly complicated financial marketplace and claim their part of the American Dream.
