Is a private, 501(c) (3) non‐profit community housing development organization (CHDO). Founded in 1974, cdcb has been providing safe, sanitary affordable housing to the citizens of South Texas, and is now one of the largest non‐profit producers of single‐family housing for homeownership in Texas. cdcb is governed by a 12-person community-based Board of Directors that serves on a volunteer basis to determine policy for the corporation. We serve the southernmost area of the United States – Cameron and Willacy Counties, Texas, which shares its border with Mexico on the south, and the Gulf of Mexico on its east.
cdcb is a multifaceted affordable housing organization devoted to utilizing collaborative partnerships to create sustainable communities across the Rio Grande Valley through quality education, model financing, efficient home design, and superior construction.
cdcb shall be the trendsetter in creating model communities, where every person will be valued, provided options, interconnected within sustainable communities, and assured a high quality of life through excellence in education and responsible decision making.
cdcb has been the recipient of numerous national affordable housing awards, including being a recipient of the Maxwell Award of Excellence, a Maxwell Award of Excellence Finalist, and recipient of the Federal Home Loan Bank System Community Partnership Award. We have also been recognized with the State of Texas Housing Finance Agency Special Achievement Award. In 2013 we were presented with the Highest Cumulative kw Savings Award by American Electric Power (AEP) Texas.
In July 2013, cdcb was granted membership into the national Neighborworks® network. This significant achievement, which resulted from meeting high organizational health and performance standards, enables the organization to gain access to a powerful battery of training, research, technical assistance and funding opportunities.
In 2015, cdcb earned an ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader Award for our outstanding commitment to energy-efficient new homes and producing 80 ENERGY STAR certified homes in 2014.
